Who is Lizard McGee?

After being experimented on by aliens as a small child , Lizard McGee began to experience fantastic visions and vivid pre-cognizant dreams that told of eventual world-wide annihilation at the hands of extraordinary creatures from space. He created the band now known as Earwig as a means to harness this bizarre knowledge and used his talents to share it with the world through song. He has dedicated his life to this cause. His super natural powers and knack for a keen melody have taken him around the world and back again. In addition to fighting evil minions from outer space, Lizard became fascinated with the life of Harry Houdini, which led to the life long search for the perfect self working card trick. This quest and the persistent rumors of a magical, extra-terrestrial Yeti-like creature eventually brought him to the secluded woods of Southern Ohio where he now lives in a hidden fortress near the haunted Moonville Tunnel railroad pass. Lizard likes to spend weekends on the couch watching old episodes of Ultra Man, trying to solve the puzzling mystery that is Citizen Kane and taking care of his 12 cats, 3 dogs and 2 chickens. When not playing a leisurely game of weekend yard golf on his own private golf course, Lizard enjoys Vegan cooking and writing about himself in the 3rd person.

Costa Hondroulis is a Bass God.

George and his brother Costa have played together bands since they were teenagers and they have a musical connection that’s undeniable. Costa has chops and style to spare. So he seemed like a natural choice when Earwig was in need of a bassist this past September. Costa has been in his share of cool Columbus bands too. But little did I know that how much his legend preceded him. It seemed that whenever I told people that he was our new bass player they would all just rant on about “Oh my god! That’s awesome. Costa is the coolest!” It got so bad that I thought about re-naming the band Costa and the Earwigs. Seriously. Befitting his reputation as a bad-ass, he did show up to practice already knowing the songs from the album and ready to contribute fresh and inventive low-end to the new Earwig songs we‘re working on. We worked up a 10 song set and filmed some live videos at Electraplay studios for Pat Radio after only two short rehearsals. Righteous. Costa’s first show was at the LC in November, one of the biggest shows we’ve had recently. Quite an introduction.               Now if he would just learn some jokes we’d be cool.

Have you met the drummer?

George Hondroulis plays the drums for Earwig. He also plays in      The Evil Queens and The Bush League All Stars because, you know, good drummers are hard to find. He drives a Honda Element and lives in Clintonville, OH. George is a Vegan and his favorite animal is the elusive Liger, half lion, half tiger. An all around swell guy who happens to be a very good artist, George also collects Presidential memorabilia and likes to enjoy a good glass of Makers Mark while reading Master & Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov.

It’s A New Earwig!

In case your wondering what we’ve been up to, here’s a peek at a new song recorded live at Electraplay studios in Columbus for Pat Radio.

 ‘I Don’t Want To Go’

This is the first thing we did after only 2 practices with new bass player Costa.You can see the other videos on Electraplay’s YouTube page. Right now we’re working on mixes for our upcoming 4 song EP ‘North High Alumni’. It should see the light of day early in 2011.

The album was recorded in one take at a quickie recording session just before we began overdubs for the electric album. You can read more about it on the Night Cusser blog. We’re giving it away for FREE because we like you so much. Enjoy!

Earwig’s 4th studio album, Gibson Under Mountain is now available for download through Bandcamp.com. Physical CDs are available for order now and will ship on June 1st,  2010. A delux edition with DVD is planned for release later this year.
